North Georgia Education

Okay, school is back in. For many that means (A) worse rush hour traffic, then (B) catch up on the latest about schools of interest.

Foremost on many people’s is the quality of local education. Even for those without children in the household, good schools contribute to sustained property values, stable neighborhoods and common best interest in the community itself.

North Georgia offers some of the finest schools & school systems in the Southeast – and the US. Launch of the HOPE Scholarship in 1993 served to substantially elevate both SAT scores & numbers of state university applications. It further motivates college-bound students to stay in state. The result is an enhanced quality of education at every level.

Do not be concerned if a school you know is not listed. As with all ranking systems, exceptional candidates are often omitted due to any number of criteria.

Many schools have established nonprofit charitable foundations to provide financial support for needs of students, faculty & administration, far beyond funds available from the state, county or conventional PTA.

Depending on the district, schools offer a range of advanced placement options:

The Georgia Governor's Honors Program (GHP) is a four-week summer residential program that provides intellectually gifted & artistically talented high school students challenging opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Selection for GHP is a competitive process consisting of interviews at the school and district level.

Dual enrollment enables qualified high school students to earn college credit while working on their diploma.

International Baccalaureate (IB) is a rigorous curriculum which culminates in earning an IB certificate or diploma. Many colleges grant sophomore status to incoming students who hold an IB diploma.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses provide high school students a college-level academic experience. Students who pass AP exams can earn credits & accelerated placement in college.

For elementary and middle school students who exceed current grade level expectations, parents & guardians can apply to have their child considered for whole grade acceleration, or grade skipping.

Charter schools emphasize innovation, school choice, parental involvement, student achievement, accountability, communication & collaboration.

Magnet schools offer a wide range of distinctive education programs, with emphasis on math, science, technology, foreign language, arts & humanities.

Regardless of your incentive to reside in a superior school district, options abound across North Georgia.
